The Plant Engineer is responsible to define, organize, plan, and execute all small capital investment projects to be cost effective, timely, and safely utilize state-of-the-art engineering concepts. The incumbent has to ensure all activities in assigned area are in accordance with accepted engineering practices, regulations, cGMP and Evonik Corporation policies and standards. This position provides technical expertise to maintain and continuously improve assigned areas in order to minimize costs and to ensure technical means for safe and high quality operation. The Plant Engineer can also be asked to be project responsible on medium size capital projects and for some new product estimates.
Job Responsibility:
Provide technical expertise, technical services, small capital project delivery for assigned customers at Tippecanoe Laboratories
Coordinate small capital and technical change projects through design, construction, commissioning, and qualification, and start up
Support daily operations including equipment troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis to assure technical availability
Work with process engineers to improve regulatory compliance, reliability, and safety
Maintenance budget planning, supervision, and control of maintenance in assigned cost centers
Monitor and report assigned cost center metrics on a regular basis
Serve as project responsible/ Project manager or consultant when necessary, on capital projects/customer projects
Responsible for meeting site objectives in core areas of small capital project delivery, plant engineering support, equipment reliability, improvement of equipment systems, and key support for productivity projects
Make and Influence key decisions and take responsibility for time schedule, costs, quality, and plant/area operability
Develop a maintenance strategy for assigned building(s)/area
Foster a continuous improvement and optimization process in assigned area
Introduce standards, tools, procedures, safety, cGMP and compliance initiatives in assigned area
Originate/ develop technical changes, improvements, along with supporting documentation
Develop and maintain engineering specifications, standards, and equipment work instructions
Responsible for development of the investment and asset strategy for current and future business in assigned area
Prepare accurate and timely preparation for engineering expense reports
Ensure activities meet fundamental cGMP requirements relating to conduct and work practices to ensure the SISPQ of the products
Adhere to ESHS programs, rules, & procedures
Requirements:
Possess a highly effective knowledge of plant design, production, project management, maintenance management, policies and standards in assigned area
Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem solving skills to maintain customer, area, and business needs
Skills in successfully overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities for improvements
Ability to implement the fundamentals of project management and plant engineering
Preferred bachelor’s degree in engineering at a minimum and 1-3 years project execution and plant experience
Human relation skills with emphasis on oral and written communication are essential
Ability to influence groups without having direct supervisory responsibility
Good computer skills in a variety of software packages (MS Office, SAP, AutoCad)
Familiarity with construction drawings and specifications
Capable of managing a budget of $2.5M -$2.75M/yr
Experience in chemical or pharmaceutical processing equipment/ unit operations
