The Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operational performance of facilities services within a higher education environment. This role oversees custodial, grounds, and maintenance functions, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained campus that supports students, faculty, and staff.
Job Responsibility
Oversee daily operations of custodial, grounds, and maintenance teams across campus facilities
Ensure all services are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, service level agreements (SLAs), and institutional standards
Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to extend asset life and minimize downtime
Monitor work order systems, ensuring timely completion and high-quality service delivery
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and maintenance standards are met
Lead, coach, and develop frontline supervisors and staff across multiple service lines
Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and labor planning to meet operational needs
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and disciplinary processes
Serve as the primary point of contact for campus stakeholders and client leadership
Build strong relationships with university departments, administration, and facilities teams
Respond promptly to service concerns and implement corrective actions
Participate in regular client meetings and provide operational updates and reporting
Develop and manage budgets, including labor, supplies, and equipment
Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for cost control and efficiencies
Manage vendor relationships and procurement processes
Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and all applicable regulatory requirements
Maintain safety programs and conduct regular training and audits
Enforce adherence to campus policies, procedures, and sustainability initiatives
Identify process improvements to enhance service delivery, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
Implement best practices and innovative solutions in facilities management
Track KPIs and develop action plans to improve performance metrics
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of facilities management or operations experience
