Job Description:

This position prepares detailed cost estimates for MEP construction projects using Bluebeam, reviewing plans, specifications, and project documents. It involves coordination with clients, vendors, and construction personnel to resolve issues and develop comprehensive bids outlining project scope and costs. The role includes determining material and labor requirements, assisting in project planning and scheduling, and recommending cost-efficient, high-quality construction materials. Gantt charts or similar scheduling tools are used for project planning. The position monitors electrical work and system shutdowns for safety, communicates status updates, and responds to emergency repairs during and after hours. It ensures all work complies with UC San Diego design standards and specifications and identifies system deficiencies requiring repair or replacement. Additional responsibilities include maintaining facility-related plans and procedures for access control, emergency preparedness, fire safety, and hazardous materials. The role supports budget development and long-term infrastructure planning through cost estimating, scope development, and forecasting. It also contributes to the development of facility procedures based on available budget, space, and staffing resources. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential when working with a diverse campus community. The position requires awareness of workplace hazards, adherence to all safety protocols, and active participation in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Dependability, flexibility, and responsiveness in a dynamic service setting are key to success. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional and implements and coordinates building management procedures and space planning activities. Develops space allocation project scope, schedule and budget plans for management review, implements and makes recommendations for new and revised procedures. Oversees various facilities-related operational activities. Has general knowledge about several operational functions. Receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on new assignments. May occasionally function as a lead. Be able to work with limited supervision.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area with experience in a large commercial facilities environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the electrical construction field
  • Experience coordinating utility shutdowns in a large scale commercial facilities environment to minimize disruption to building occupants
  • Experience conducting preliminary and final assessments on new construction and renovation projects to ensure quality work and compliance with project specifications
  • Thorough knowledge in the areas of building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, organization and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences
  • Thorough knowledge of California Building Codes
  • Proficient with MS Office, Adobe, Maximo, Bluebeam, and CMMS systems
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, plans, specifications, and CAD drawings
  • Knowledge of architectural or engineering concepts
  • Ability to collaborate with contractors and project teams
