Job Description:

The Microsoft Fabric Administrator is responsible for managing, configuring, and optimizing Mesilla Valley Enterprise's Microsoft Fabric environment, including power BI, OneLake, Lakehouse, Pipeline, Notebook, and Capacities configurations. This role ensures secure, reliable, and high-performing data analytics operations while providing expert support, governance, and troubleshooting across the Fabric platform. The Fabric Admin acts as the operational arm of the governance strategy, ensuring technical execution aligns with organizational compliance and governance objectives.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage and configure Fabric capacities, workspace assignments, workspace settings, and capacity scaling
  • Oversee OneLake storage organization, shortcuts, security, and data access governance
  • Maintain and enforce workspace standards, naming conventions, and lifecycle management
  • Manage Power BI Applications configuring audiences, enforcing Row-Level Security and visibility
  • Administer user permissions, roles, service principals, and managed identities across all Fabric Artifacts
  • Diagnose and resolve Power BI architecture issues related to: Dataset/semantic model refresh failures, Gateway and connectivity issues, Capacity overload and throttling, Long-running DAX queries, slow visuals, inefficient data models, Incremental refresh configuration and performance tuning, Row-level security (RLS) and object-level security (OLS) conflicts
  • Utilize Fabric Artifact's lineage to identify downstream issues with security, disparate refresh of associated artifacts and/or errors
  • Analyze performance metrics and logs from the Admin Portal, Fabric Capacity Metrics, and Log Analytics
  • Collaborate with BI developers to optimize data models, reduce memory pressure, and enforce best practices
  • Implement governance policies including all artifact metadata associated with descriptions and sensitivity labels, data policies, RLS/OLS, and workspace access controls
  • Integrate with Microsoft Purview for data classification, lineage, and compliance
  • Monitor and manage audit logs, usage metrics, and access policies across Fabric and Power BI
  • Track usage, capacity consumption, and performance KPIs using Log Analytics, Fabric Admin tools and/or the Fabric CLI or API
  • Develop processes to monitor pipelines, Lakehouse ingestion, SQL endpoint load, and KQL database performance
  • Proactively manage refresh schedules and workload distribution to minimize load and throttling
  • Use Fabric CLI and/or Fabric REST APIs for automation and administration
  • Support CI/CD practices with Git integration (Azure DevOps)
  • Automate workspace provisioning, item deployment, and permission management
  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for Fabric and Power BI issues
  • Work closely with data engineers, BI developers, and security teams to ensure efficient data operations
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and provide remediation plans for availability or performance issues

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred)
  • At minimum 3 – 5 (three to five) years of experience administering Power BI and Microsoft Azure environments
  • Proven Experience in Fabric Administration to include hands-on experience troubleshooting in: Dataset refresh failures
  • Gateway & connectivity issues
  • Capacity and performance bottlenecks
  • Model optimization (DAX efficiency, table relationships, memory usage)
  • Strong understanding of Power BI/Fabric architecture: capacities, semantic models, refresh pipelines, Lakehouse, Warehouse, notebooks and OneLake
  • Experience with Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), service principals and role-based access control
  • Proficiency with monitoring tools (Log Analytics, Admin Portal, Capacity Metrics App)
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, Fabric CLI, Power Shell, or automation frameworks
  • Commitment to staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies

Nice to have:

  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-700) or similar
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview governance
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (i.e., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • Background in data engineering/cloud analytics (i.e., Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, etc.)
  • Experience in enterprise-scale Power BI architecture
