Chatterbug Limited is a national social enterprise providing a range of Speech and Language Therapy services. We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based therapy that achieves real and meaningful outcomes for children and young people. The successful candidate will deliver a high-quality, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy service embedded within school settings. Working closely with education staff, families, and other professionals, the Senior School-Based Speech and Language Therapist will provide specialist clinical input, guidance, and leadership while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day delivery of therapy services. This role carries significant clinical responsibility and contributes to service quality, consistency, and development across school-based services.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver a high-quality, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy service embedded within school settings
Work closely with education staff, families, and other professionals
Provide specialist clinical input, guidance, and leadership
Independently manage and deliver specialist Speech and Language Therapy services within school environments
Assess, diagnose, and support children and young people with a wide range of speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), including complex cases
Deliver highly specialist assessment and intervention programmes
Provide advice to schools and families on creating effective communication environments
Contribute expert knowledge to multidisciplinary teams
Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), annual reviews, and multi-agency planning processes
Provide specialist advice, mentoring, and second opinions to colleagues
Support the identification of service gaps and contribute ideas for service improvements
Communicate complex clinical information clearly and sensitively to children, families, and professionals
Produce high-quality written reports based on specialist assessments
Ensure parents, carers, and education staff are actively involved in planning and prioritising therapy interventions
Develop and deliver specialist training for teachers, parents, and other professionals
Participate in clinical governance activities including audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives
Collect and maintain accurate statistical and case data
Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and SEN legislation
Maintain up-to-date case notes
Actively engage in continuing professional development and maintain a professional portfolio
Participate in performance reviews
Attend specialist training and professional interest groups
Maintain knowledge of current clinical guidelines, emerging research, and best practice
Support the growth and development of the organisation by building relationships across health, education, and related sectors
Represent Chatterbug at local and national levels
Help raise awareness of the services provided
Contribute to initiatives that improve service impact and efficiency
Work closely with children, families, carers, and professionals to develop effective therapy plans and support strategies
Work autonomously within agreed professional frameworks and organisational policies
Manage a complex caseload independently within school settings
Requirements:
Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development
Significant post-qualification experience working with children and young people with a wide range of speech, language, and communication needs, including complex cases
Experience in providing clinical supervision and mentoring junior colleagues
Experience contributing to service development initiatives
Experience delivering training to professionals or parents
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams across educational or clinical settings
Strong clinical knowledge of assessment and intervention approaches for speech, language, and communication needs, including complex and neurodivergent profiles
