Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Executive Consultant to assist the Board of Directors of a prominent UK power construction contracting company. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the energy and construction sectors, exceptional corporate governance expertise, and a proven track record of strategic leadership. This is a role that requires a significant commitment to guide the company’s long-term success and ensure its compliance and ethical standards.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist and advise the Senior Leadership team during Board Meetings, Annual General Meetings (AGMs), and Extraordinary General Meetings (EGMs), ensuring effective and efficient conduct
  • Help set the Board agenda in consultation with the CEO and Company Secretary, focusing on strategic matters, performance monitoring, risk management, and corporate governance
  • Ensure the Board operates effectively as a unit, fostering a culture of open debate, mutual respect, and constructive challenge
  • Review and advise the appointment, induction, and ongoing development of directors, and lead the annual performance evaluation of the Board, its committees, and individual directors
  • Help to maintain and uphold the highest standards of corporate governance and ethics across the company
  • Work closely with the CEO to shape and drive the company’s long-term strategy, ensuring it aligns with the power construction market’s unique challenges and opportunities in the UK
  • Monitor the implementation of strategy and management performance against agreed objectives and budgets
  • Ensure robust systems for risk management, internal controls, and financial reporting are in place and adhered to
  • Oversee the company’s commitment to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, particularly critical within the construction and energy sectors
  • Act as a representative of the Board to shareholders and the wider investor community
  • Maintain effective communication and relationships with key external stakeholders, including government bodies (e.g., Ofgem, BEIS), regulators, major clients (e.g., National Grid, power generators), and industry partners
  • Ensure the views of all stakeholders are considered in Board discussions and decision-making

Requirements

  • Extensive senior leadership experience at Board level in a complex, regulated industry
  • Deep knowledge of the UK power or heavy infrastructure construction contracting sector is highly desirable, or demonstrably relevant experience in related engineering/energy fields
  • Expert understanding of corporate governance principles, risk management, and financial oversight, ideally within a publicly listed or significantly sized private company
  • Demonstrated strategic acumen and a track record of driving sustainable growth
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills necessary to work with the Board and engage diverse stakeholders
  • Strong ethical compass and commitment to integrity
  • A degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Law, or a related field is preferred
  • Professional qualifications or relevant certifications in governance (e.g., from the Institute of Directors) are an advantage
