As an Execution Lead Zone Engineer within General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering, you will lead a team of manufacturing engineers responsible for developing and launching manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment. You’ll oversee the full lifecycle—from concept through plant integration to steady-state production—ensuring flawless execution across new programs, model changes, and current production. This role operates within both centralized engineering facilities and assembly plants, requiring elevated independent judgment and strong cross-functional collaboration.
Job Responsibility:
Lead a team of engineers and contractors through all phases of execution, including setting objectives, coaching, and performance management
Participate in hiring decisions, promotions, and team development
Own execution for new programs, model changes, and current production in your zone
Define and implement changes in product and manufacturing requirements (tooling, workstations, facilities)
Ensure timely completion of Manufacturing Engineering (ME) deliverables to support flawless launches
Lead weekly Zone Integration Planning meetings to align on install requirements, phasing, and conveyance
Support build events and address launch issues at the plant
Develop tooling Statements of Requirements (SORs) and equipment delivery/installation plans
Oversee vendor integration and provide technical direction during equipment installation
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize tooling and processes
Ensure efficient material flow and support MPS cost studies with MSIEs and Process teams
Lead Safety Observation Tours and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Participate in program financials and provide accurate spending forecasts
Support off-shift work, weekends, and travel as needed (50-75%) during launch phases
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
5+ years in manufacturing/engineering, including 2 years of launch experience
Strong technical expertise in process engineering and manufacturing systems
Thorough knowledge of Manufacturing Processes, Equipment, Global Launch Process, and Vehicle Development Process
Proven leadership in managing complex projects and engineering teams
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills
Ability to work flexible hours and travel extensively during product launches (50-75% travel)
Demonstrated initiative and ability to coach and develop others
Nice to have:
Experience in a supervisory or management capacity, showcasing the ability to lead teams effectively and drive results
Experience working within General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering environments
Extensive knowledge of GM Safety and Design Standards
