This full-time position is a critical component of the school's academic calendar, specifically focused on the summer examination series. Starting directly after the Easter break, the role involves the meticulous supervision of students to ensure that all assessments are conducted in a fair, quiet, and secure environment. The individual in this post will be responsible for upholding the external regulations set by exam boards, acting as the primary point of authority within the exam room to ensure every student has the best possible environment in which to succeed.
Job Responsibility:
Strict Supervision: Constant patrolling of the examination room to ensure no unauthorised communication occurs
Material Management: Managing the secure distribution and collection of all test papers and scripts
Policy Compliance: Adhering strictly to JCQ guidelines and the school's internal conduct policies
Candidate Assistance: Addressing student queries regarding the exam process without compromising the paper's content
Environment Control: Ensuring the room remains silent and free from any external distractions
Administrative Accuracy: Meticulously completing attendance registers and recording any seating changes
Timekeeping: Precisely managing the start and end times of exams, including keeping students informed of remaining time
Malpractice Reporting: Identifying and immediately reporting any suspicious behaviour or breaches of rules
Accessibility Support: Providing specialised support for students with access arrangements, such as reading or prompting
Emergency Response: Implementing evacuation or lock down procedures calmly if an incident arises during a session
Requirements:
Previous invigilation experience (ideally) or training can be provided
An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
Fluency in English with the ability to speak clearly to large groups
Eligibility to work in the UK
Concentration: Staying alert and focused during long periods of silence
Diplomacy: Handling student anxieties or difficult situations with tact and firmness
Vigilance: Noticing small details that might indicate a breach of examination rules
Teamwork: Coordinating seamlessly with the Exams Officer and other invigilators
Methodical Approach: Working through tasks in a systematic, orderly fashion
Verbal Clarity: Projecting your voice clearly so that all students can hear instructions
