Job Description:

SAFEchild is seeking dependable and compassionate Evening Childcare Support Staff to support childcare operations during evening group sessions. This is a 1099 independent contractor position providing 20 hours per week, with shifts scheduled Monday through Thursday, 4:00 PM–9:00 PM, based on program operations. Staff will report at 4:00 PM to prepare for evening programming, including room setup, coordination with staff regarding food service, and other pre-program responsibilities. Program services are closed on major holidays, two weeks in December and organizational wellness days. This role works in coordination with the Volunteer and Prevention Coordinator, with oversight from the Program Director. There is potential for this contract role to transition into a part-time position in the future, based on program needs and performance.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supervise and support children during evening group sessions
  • Assist with planning and facilitating age-appropriate activities
  • Prepare childcare spaces prior to group start, including setup and coordinating with staff around food service and distribution
  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment in compliance with agency guidelines
  • Assist with intake, check-in, and check-out procedures
  • Support and coordinate with volunteers as assigned
  • Communicate respectfully with parents and caregivers
  • Maintain attendance and basic activity records
  • Ensure childcare areas remain clean, organized, and properly stocked

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children in a group setting (formal or informal)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks calmly and professionally
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Nice to have:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience in childcare, youth programs, or educational settings
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices
  • Experience supporting volunteers
