Questar III BOCES announces a full-time (6-week summer program) ONE on ONE Teacher Aide position to support Questar III special education students during ESY. We are looking for a patient and vigilant 1:1 Teacher Aide for our 6-week Extended School Year (ESY) program. In this specific role, you will be assigned to one individual student to provide the constant, personalized support they need to navigate the school day safely and effectively. Your primary goal is to act as a dedicated shadow, helping your assigned student maintain their social, behavioral, and functional skills to prevent regression during the summer months.
Job Responsibility:
Dedicated 1:1 Supervision: Maintain constant proximity and engagement with your assigned student to ensure their safety and participation in all activities
Behavioral Redirection: Use specific, pre-approved strategies to help the student stay on task and manage frustrations, following the guidance of the Lead Teacher and the student's behavior plan
Social Facilitation: Act as a "social bridge," helping the student interact appropriately with peers during recess, snack time, and group lessons
Daily Transitions: Provide hands-on assistance during transitions (e.g., moving from the bus to the classroom, or the classroom to the playground), which can often be a challenging time for students with special needs
Instructional Support: Sit with the student during lessons to help them focus, clarify simple instructions, and encourage the completion of tasks
Physical & Personal Care: Assist with the student’s specific physical needs, which may include help with mobility, eating/feeding, or hygiene/toileting as required
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate's degree or completion of an approved Teacher's Aide program preferred
Candidates with a paraprofessional certificate or equivalent as required by New York State are strongly encouraged to apply
Nice to have:
Preferred candidates will have experience working with Special Education students
