Job Description

The Ruhlin Company seeks to hire a Estimator-Highway Lighting & Signalization out of our Sharon center office. Summary: Prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more work types.

Job Responsibility

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current/accurate information on prices from suppliers
  • Maintain database with current contact information for subcontractors and vendors
  • Update external company website with current bid information
  • Request quotes
  • organize, review, and log quotes received
  • Support other department personnel as required
  • Visit project sites to observe construction methods
  • Update skills for software tools and technology utilization
  • Perform post-bid analysis
  • i.e. bid tabulations
  • Assist with cost control system set-up
  • Participate in bid review meetings with owner or owner’s representatives as needed
  • Participate in project hand-off meetings
  • Assist with making phone calls or making copies of documents, proposals
  • Deliver major bids
  • pick up drawings and other miscellaneous bid-related errands
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3+ years of Highway Lighting & Signalization estimating experience
  • Advanced math and computer skills
  • Ability to conceptualize a project schedule from start through completion including sequence/phasing of work
  • Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control
  • Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and HCSS Heavy Bid is a plus
  • ability to learn additional software programs
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Team-focused mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships
