We are currently recruiting for an experienced Estates Operations Manager to join an NHS organisation on a 6-month contract. This is a key leadership role responsible for the effective operational management of estate services across two hospital sites, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high-quality environment for patients, staff, and visitors. You will oversee all aspects of the Trust’s estate, including building and engineering systems, roads, footpaths, and grounds, ensuring full compliance with NHS standards, statutory regulations, and health & safety requirements.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the operational management of estates services across two hospital sites
Ensure all building and engineering systems are maintained to NHS and statutory standards
Manage planned, reactive, and preventative maintenance programmes
Oversee contractors and in-house maintenance teams
Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety and HTM requirements
Manage and control estates operational budgets effectively
Respond to and lead on critical incidents and operational failures
Drive service improvements and maintain high standards of service delivery
Work collaboratively with internal departments and external stakeholders
Requirements:
Full UK driving licence – ability to travel between sites is essential
Degree (or equivalent) in Building Services, Engineering, or related discipline, with postgraduate-level experience
Strong background in operational maintenance management within a complex organisation
Proven experience managing estates maintenance teams and external contractors
Experience of financial control of estates budgets
Strong understanding of NHS estates policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
Ability to manage multiple complex priorities and lead during operational incidents
Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
Confident, proactive, and able to work independently
Strong team leadership and motivational ability
Nice to have:
Certificate/Diploma in Management Studies (or equivalent)
NEBOSH Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely qualification
Working towards or holding Chartered status or membership of a professional body (e.g. IHEEM)
Experience managing hospital engineering systems and HTM compliance
Experience of service improvement and organisational change within a Trade Unionised environment
