Job Description

Robert Half Legal is recruiting an Estate Planning Associate for a successful trusts, estates, and tax planning boutique law firm in San Francisco’s Financial District (near BART). This is a great opportunity for an attorney who is passionate about wealth planning and tax preparation and ready to take on a partnership track position (non-partnership career track is also possible) at an established practice serving high net worth families in the Bay Area.

Job Responsibility

  • Wealth planning and tax preparation
  • preparing complicated estates and trusts for high net worth clients
  • preparing income tax returns, such as estate and gift tax returns (Forms 706 & 709)
  • working directly with clients
  • drafting and editing legal documents with precision and strong attention to detail
  • counseling clients effectively and managing multiple matters

Requirements

  • 3+ years of estate planning and trust administration experience
  • Candidate with experience preparing complicated estates and trusts (e.g., GRATs, CRUTs, QTIPs, etc.) for high net worth clients is ideal
  • Preference (but not required) for LL.M in taxation, or good knowledge of generation skipping
  • Must be interested in and capable of preparing income tax returns, such as estate and gift tax returns (Forms 706 & 709)
  • Smart, intellectually curious about estate planning issues, able to work at a fast pace on a large caseload, and enjoy working directly with clients
  • Active State Bar membership required
  • At least 3 years of practice experience in trust & estate planning and probate law
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and edit legal documents with precision and strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of probate procedures, estate administration, deeds, and real estate transfer documentation
  • Familiarity with tax issues affecting estates, trusts, or income tax return preparation
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and written communication skills
  • Ability to counsel clients effectively and manage multiple matters

Nice to have

  • LL.M in taxation
  • good knowledge of generation skipping
