We are recruiting on behalf of a global client for an ESG Lawyer (Compliance Counsel) to provide expert guidance on environmental, sustainability, and regulatory compliance matters across international operations. This is a key role supporting a multinational energy business, offering practical, business-focused legal advice across complex, multi-jurisdictional frameworks. This would be working out of their office in Saudi Arabia and is ideal for someone looking for a life and work adventure, but still be able to advise and deal with some of the most interesting/complex environmental and sustainability issues globally.
Job Responsibility:
Provide legal advice on global environmental, sustainability, and ESG compliance requirements
Advise on multi-jurisdictional regulations including climate change, air emissions, water discharges, waste management, natural resources, and biodiversity matters
Support permitting and regulatory compliance across U.S., EU, and UK frameworks
Develop and implement environmental compliance programs, including self-audit processes
Monitor regulatory developments and maintain up-to-date compliance policies and procedures
Support global operations, subsidiaries, and joint ventures with compliance counseling
Engage with regulators and oversee commitments arising from enforcement actions
Identify compliance risks and gaps, and implement mitigation strategies
Develop and deliver ESG and environmental compliance training programs
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and leadership to drive implementation of legal requirements
Support due diligence, third-party monitoring, and compliance systems development
Provide oversight during compliance reviews and manage external counsel as needed
Requirements:
Qualified lawyer in good standing in the US, UK, EU, or Canada
Law degree from an accredited institution (U.S. qualification preferred)
6+ years’ experience in environmental and regulatory compliance within a multinational environment
Strong knowledge of global environmental and sustainability regulations (U.S., EU, and/or UK)
Experience advising on ESG, climate, and environmental compliance frameworks
Commercial, pragmatic mindset with strong stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
High ethical standards and sound professional judgment
