CSIRO plays a critical role in translating world-class research into societal, economic and environmental benefit for Australia. An important element of this work is managing a portfolio of equity investments arising from commercialisation activities, strategic partnerships and technology-based ventures. We are seeking an experienced Equity Portfolio Manager to join a small, specialist team responsible for managing and enhancing CSIRO's Equity Portfolio. This highly visible role works closely with portfolio company leadership teams, CSIRO-appointed nominee directors, researchers and diverse external stakeholders, to maximise the value and impact of CSIRO's investments. You will apply your strong expertise in equity transactions, investment management, and valuation principles to support portfolio performance, provide strategic advice and contribute to the development of future investment opportunities.
Job Responsibility
Monitoring portfolio company performance, including operational developments, capital raising activities, and progress against key strategic and commercial milestones
Managing shareholder-related matters, including the preparation of briefing papers and review of documentation required to support recommendations for decision-makers
Supporting CSIRO-appointed nominee directors in the execution of their responsibilities on portfolio company boards
Performing portfolio valuations and supporting financial reporting, audit and governance requirements
Developing investment exit, realisation and conversion strategies to optimise portfolio outcomes
Contributing to the development of external communications and stakeholder engagement activities that showcase the impact and performance of CSIRO’s equity investments
Requirements
Degree level qualifications in either commerce, finance, law, accounting or other relevant discipline
Excellent written and oral communication skills, evidenced by superior reporting, presentation and negotiation abilities, and the capacity to identify and influence critical stakeholders to gain support for contentious proposals/ideas
Significant commercial experience gained in an investment management, financial/corporate advisory, accounting or other relevant corporate or financial markets environment
Knowledge and understanding of equity investment instruments, including associated documentation
Knowledge and understanding of company valuation techniques
Strong commercial acumen and understanding of key corporate governance principles
A strong history of working effectively in teams
Nice to have
Direct investment management experience
Familiarity with the Australian innovation sector and science commercialisation pathways
Experience with start-up companies and VC funding
Experience engaging with third party management teams and stakeholders, ideally gained in an investment management setting
