Job Description:

Our Forestry Division, North Sierra Region, has an opening for an Equipment Operator to help sustainably manage the Company’s road systems in Lassen, Plumas, Tehama, Butte, Yuba, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, and Sierra counties. This position will work with California Registered Professional Foresters and perform road work on Timber Harvest Plans and US Forest Service contracts. Requires living in or around the Butte County area.

Job Responsibility:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair heavy equipment to effectively build road systems
  • Safely operate various types of heavy equipment, including: excavator, backhoe, grader, roller, dump truck, and water truck
  • Perform daily equipment maintenance and safety checks
  • Recognize and report needed maintenance and repairs
  • Operate a four-wheel drive vehicle and safely negotiate steep mountainous roads
  • Navigate mountainous areas using maps, GPS device, and tablet
  • Effectively work in various weather and field conditions
  • Work out-of-town on some forestry-related road system projects

Requirements:

  • 1 year experience operating trucks, dozers, graders, backhoes, and/or excavators
  • Class A license (ability to obtain Class A license within one year may be considered)
  • Current valid driver’s license, with clean driving record
  • Experience safely towing various types of trailers
  • Basic understanding of logging, road construction, and forestry operations
  • Working knowledge of road, watercourse crossings, drainage, and erosion control construction and maintenance
  • Proven commitment to safety
  • Excellent communication skills, self-motivation, and a strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member

Nice to have:

Heavy Equipment Certification from an accredited school or program is preferred
