The Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings Program Management Office (EPSS PMO) is a relatively new team at PG&E that coordinated the launch, full-scale implementation, and long-term operational maintenance of EPSS – PG&E’s game-changing wildfire mitigation program that enables protective devices such as line reclosers to “fast-trip” on fault detection, significantly reducing utility-caused ignitions and catastrophic wildfires. EPSS Systems & Data Management team supports the program by both maintaining and enhancing complex data pipelines and applications that underpin nearly every aspect of EPSS. The team leverages live system information every day from meteorology, GIS, SCADA, and engineering data (powerbase) for 2 million customers and over 40,000 miles of conductor. Data Team Roles and Responsibilities: Manage the data pipeline & controls that determine the EPSS Program Scope (devices & circuits); Ensure the system is consistently in the appropriate posture to prevent catastrophic wildfires; Support operations with reporting/tracking and opportunities to continuously improve. The EPSS Data Internship position will be at the groundbreaking edge of this through several potential opportunities in refining & establishing new data pipelines, experimentation with AI/LLM toolkits, and front-end application building. This is a major developmental opportunity to get hands-on experience in using Palantir Foundry as a full-stack data platform with a highly engaged & experienced group of data scientists, data engineers, and top-notch business analysts. The successful candidate is expected to support senior team members on key initiatives including but not limited to: Considering new approaches to device state validation using a combination of real-time telemetry and other data sources; Building data products that support reporting and management of 2026 initiatives within EPSS Operations to improve electric reliability and reduce outage durations; Enhancing the EPSS Planning team’s capability to execute and track deployment of new devices and device firmware for improved program performance and effectiveness.
