The environmental services tech is responsible for executing daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment. While executing the assigned tasks, the EVS tech will have contact with patients, visitors, and clinical and non-clinical staff. Contact may include physical, psychological, educational, and safety related and should be appropriate to the special demographics of patient served in the assigned areas. Responsible for ensuring timely room turns related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The environmental services technician in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention and patient experience. Ensures adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. No patient care assignment.
Job Responsibility:
Execute daily duties to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment
Ensure timely room turns related to patient throughput
Contribute to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention and patient experience
Adhere to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures
May assist with on-boarding of new Environmental Services Technicians
Perform duties demonstrating knowledge of health care cleaning/disinfecting principles, safe chemical use, and equipment handling
Adhere to safety, risk management and infection control guidelines
Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives
Maintain cleaning cart(s), supplies and equipment
Remove waste and transport to appropriate disposal area
Follow all infection prevention practices
Adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPPA)
Practice critical thinking skills
Demonstrate personal accountability
Identify and utilize appropriate resources to resolve problems
Demonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements
Operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment
May perform specialty tasks (conference room set up, cleaning stairwells/elevators, hanging cubicle curtains)
Perform daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas and equipment
May be called upon to perform other similar or related duties
Requirements:
1/2 year (6 months) directly related experience
Not Required education
Bilingual English/Spanish (nonessential)
Physical ability for Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Ability to work in medical hazards: Moderate exposure to chemicals/dangerous equipment/materials
Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
