We are looking for a new Environmental Management Systems Adviser to join our team here at Wessex Water! This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with people, data and systems to turn environmental policy into practical action that genuinely makes a difference.

Job Responsibility:

  • support the ongoing maintenance and development of the ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • work closely with environmental colleagues to help identify and implement improvements within the EMS
  • work collaboratively with teams across the business to support alignment of different management systems
  • support the coordination of environmental incidents, observations and good practices reported by employees and contractors via the incident/observation management system
  • support the coordination of the environmental audit programme
  • assist with the review and updating of environmental processes, procedures and guidance
  • produce environmental updates and alerts to communicate regulatory changes, procedural updates and key environmental information
  • identify and support environmental and sustainability initiatives, contributing to increased environmental awareness across the business
  • assist with the coordination of the environmental training programme
  • provide support to external accrediting bodies and assist with the coordination of certification audits, including evidence collation and action tracking
  • support writing and collating of performance data and reports communicated across the business
  • undertake occasional site visits to support incident management, audits, supply chain engagement or environmental initiatives

Requirements:

  • experience working in an environmental management system or environmental advisory role
  • a working knowledge of environmental legislation and its practical application
  • familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
  • experience of participating in audits, inspections, investigations or compliance activities (desirable)
  • the ability to work collaboratively and build effective working relationships
  • a positive, proactive, and professional approach to work
  • strong communication and presentation skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders
  • good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • strong written skills, including contributing to procedures, reports, and technical documents
  • good IT skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • commitment to a ‘make it right' culture and contributing to continual environmental improvement
  • a full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and willingness to occasionally travel to sites within the Wessex Water region
  • comprehension of UK environmental legislation and policy
  • a good understanding of environmental management systems and how they are applied in practice(ISO 14001 desirable)
  • a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related subject (e.g. Geography), or equivalent practical experience
  • an understanding of environmental good practice across operational or project‑based environments, including pollution prevention and environmental risk control (desirable)
