The Environmental Department Intern will support environmental compliance, reporting, and sustainability initiatives across both the aluminum smelter and power plant operations. This internship provides hands‑on experience in environmental management systems, regulatory reporting, and environmental improvement projects. Depending on the intern’s degree program, tailored project opportunities are available in sustainability, geology, air emissions, water stewardship, and biodiversity.
Job Responsibility:
Become familiar with the operational processes of an aluminum smelter and power plant, including environmental aspects of production
Assist with streamlining data reporting associated with operating reports and environmental performance tracking
Participate in environmental data collection, analysis, and reporting tasks
Work collaboratively with environmental staff, operations teams, and engineering groups
Support compliance activities through documentation updates and process improvements
Follow all environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Support projects aimed at environmental compliance, sustainability, and resource stewardship
Demonstrate environmentally responsible work habits in both field and office settings
Adhere to all site safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental health and safety protocols
Participate in hazard identification and safe‑work planning for field activities
Maintain safe behaviors during environmental sampling, inspections, and data collection tasks.
Requirements:
Enrollment in a degree program related to: Environmental Engineering
Environmental Science
Environmental Technology
Sustainability Engineering
Environmental Management
Or another field within the broad scope of environmental studies
Interest in environmental compliance, sustainability, or industrial environmental systems.
Nice to have:
Exposure to environmental reporting, sustainability frameworks, or regulatory concepts through coursework or projects
Familiarity with environmental databases, field sampling methods, or compliance documentation.
