The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist at Baxter is responsible for implementing and coordinating environmental Health and safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. This role involves conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and promoting best practices in Health and safety across the organization. The EHS Specialist will collaborate with various departments to enhance workplace safety and Health standards and environmental compliance.
Job Responsibility
Support and maintain environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, FDA, ISO, and local/state regulations
Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments
recommend and track corrective actions
Maintain accurate records for training, incidents, inspections, and compliance activities
Support hazardous waste management, including 90-day accumulation areas, and assist with environmental compliance efforts such as wastewater operations and regulatory audits
Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate safety practices into daily operations
Promote a “zero harm” culture by identifying hazards, reporting near misses, and supporting timely resolution
Serve as a trusted resource to employees on EHS best practices and policies
Assist in the design and delivery of engaging safety training (PPE, emergency response, safe work practices)
Increase safety awareness through workshops, communications, and on-the-floor coaching
Lead or support investigations into incidents and near misses to determine root causes and preventive actions
Partner with leadership to implement sustainable corrective and preventive measures
Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across EHS programs
Collaborate with Operations, HR, Facilities, and leadership to strengthen EHS and GMP performance
Partner with senior EHS team members on compliance initiatives and strategic improvements
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field
Minimum of 1 plus years of experience in environmental Health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or healthcare environment
Proven experience in implementing safety programs, creating job safety analysis, interactions with front line employees
Familiarity with industrial Health sample practices
Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices
Experience in conducting job hazard analysis, incident investigations and implementing safety programs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software
