Job Description:

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist 1 position involves administering and implementing Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures in collaboration with the EH&S Supervisor. The role ensures compliance with facility/corporate EHS policies, agency regulations, and best management practices.

Job Responsibility:

  • Aid in managing site safety and environmental programs (Chemical Hygiene, Biological Safety, Fire Safety)
  • Manage investigations of accidents and work-related injuries or illnesses, maintain OSHA 300 Logs, and follow up on Workers’ Compensation cases
  • Oversee the site's Ergonomics Program, including evaluations and follow-up activities
  • Assist in managing the EHS Training Program, maintain the training database, and provide limited training
  • Review and update written safety and environmental programs including SOPs and Work Instructions
  • Schedule and participate in quarterly Safety Council meetings and produce meeting minutes
  • Conduct laboratory evaluations to ensure regulatory compliance and report activities
  • Coordinate and document monthly safety equipment inspections (eye washes, emergency showers, fire extinguishers)
  • Conduct quarterly site inspections, document findings, and follow up as necessary
  • Ensure all equipment and areas have the correct warning signs and labels
  • Stay informed on compliance requirements and participate in relevant training
  • Implement safety awareness programs and participate in departmental safety inspections
  • Update and maintain EHS databases, track metrics, and prepare monthly reports
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements:

  • Experience working within a biotech or laboratory setting in a safety role
  • Experience or broad knowledge of EHS programs
  • Ability to take direction routinely
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of EHS regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in maintaining safety records and databases
  • Capability to conduct training and evaluations
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in a relevant field
