Job Description

Figure is seeking for a skilled and motivated Environmental Health and Safety Engineer. In summary you will be responsible for supporting the organization’s compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, developing strategies to minimize risks, and promoting a safe and sustainable workplace. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EHS engineering principles, regulatory knowledge and problem-solving skills to proactively identify hazards and implement effective solutions.

Job Responsibility

  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including CalOSHA, BAAQMD, DTSC, Local Fire Code and other environmental safety standards
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and environmental audits to identify potential hazards and areas of improvement related to safety, health, and environmental practices
  • Safety Programs: Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs and training materials to promote a culture of safety within the organization
  • Accident Investigations: Lead investigations of workplace incidents to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed reports on safety inspections, environmental assessments, and regulatory compliance. Ensure accurate documentation of safety data and reports
  • Training: Conduct training sessions for employees on safety protocols, emergency response plans, and proper handling of hazardous materials
  • Continuous Improvement: Work with management to continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and performance. Author and Maintain Safety SOPs for critical operations. Support monthly/weekly audits and work with cross functional teams to close findings
  • Equipment & Safety Systems: Help develop engineering and administrative controls on new equipment. Oversee the implementation and maintenance of safety systems, including personal protective equipment (PPE), fire protection systems, and emergency response tools
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a safe and healthy work environment across all levels of the organization

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (Public Health, Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with Bachelors degree or 3-5 with Masters, in a health, safety, or environmental engineering role, preferably within manufacturing, chemical, semiconductor or robotics
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations including Fire Codes, CalOSHA, Haz Waste management and best practices
  • Experience with risk assessment techniques, incident investigation, and environmental sustainability practices (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of how to operate environmental monitoring equipment
  • Experience in Robot/Humanoid Safety, Equipment Safety or Design for Safety
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or ASP certifications)
