We are recruiting for an Environmental Field Scientist to support our commitment for environmental excellence across our operations. Working within the Mowi environment team you will be responsible for a variety of duties to support the work of the team. The range of duties will include current meter deployment, retrieval and the initial processing of collected data. Undertaking depth surveys, equipment repair and maintenance and site visit preparation. The successful candidate will also be required to assist with the collection and processing of environmental samples, collected from the seabed and water column. This role is a 12 months fixed term post commencing August 2026 and the successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week. Working on board vessels is a key part of the role, including Mowi’s own dedicated survey vessel.
Job Responsibility
To manage and implement a programme of current meter deployment across Mowi farming locations, collecting the required hydrographic data sets in accordance with regulatory requirements to support site development and licensing
Collection of wave data at identified sites, through deployment of appropriate oceanographic equipment such as wave buoys
Ensure that all data analysis, processing, and reporting is carried out in accordance with regulatory requirements and maintained to the highest standard
To support the collection of wider environmental data at sites, such as ad-hoc environmental surveying using camera systems, including ROV’s
Support the teams wider programme of regulatory field monitoring work as required e.g., medicine residue sampling of the seabed or benthic biological sampling
Maintain all oceanographic equipment to required design, calibration, and maintenance requirements
To act as the team lead on physical characterisation of sites, using observational and modelled data supporting technical analysis of site equipment such as moorings design
Assist in site development scoping and feasibility assessments using GIS mapping, spatial data analysis and constraints / sensitivities analysis
Assess, interpret, and use environmental data in support of licence applications
Engagement with key stakeholders, including regulators, environmental consultancies, internal Mowi teams and community groups as required in support of environmental surveying delivery and wider team activities
Participation in public engagement events and interactions with members of the public is a feature of the environment teams work as is educational outreach activities with schools supporting STEM career focused learning
Requirements
Qualified to a degree level in marine science or other comparable discipline or equivalent knowledge gained from working in a relevant position within the industry
Practical work experience within the industry or experience of undertaking marine environmental surveys secured from previous relevant academic or work-related experiences
An appreciation of a range of environmental impacts and assessment techniques
An ability to communicate findings and analysis of non-compliance in a clear, concise way that benefits the company to senior managers
Able to demonstrate an ability to use relevant monitoring tools, techniques, systems, and practices relevant to the role
A flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job is essential
The ability to integrate into a multidisciplinary team operating in a busy, diverse and fast paced environment
