Job Description:

Domtar is seeking an Environmental Engineer at our Pulp Mill in Plymouth, North Carolina. The Environmental Engineer reports to the Environmental Manager. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, compiling and submitting monitoring reports, reporting environmental incidents and excursions and serving as a resource to all departments within the Plymouth Mill Operations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Understand the mill’s Safety, Environmental, and Quality objectives and how your decisions affect the mill’s ability to perform
  • Manage costs for the annually established environmental budget
  • Manage wastewater treatment system (WWTS) residuals operations: Dredging, decanting pond, knots, and depth levels and compliance with NPDES permit: sampling, monitoring, reporting, record keeping (online DRM, Cluster Rule, bioassays, dioxin, etc.)
  • Manage ISO 9001 lab quality program
  • Manage drinking water compliance program: maintain certifications, required plans, sampling, reporting, record keeping, acquire permits for system modifications or construction, manage events (notifications), disinfection
  • Manage Stormwater compliance program: maintain permit, inspections, sampling, analyses, record keeping, SWPPP, and training
  • Ensure comprehensive record keeping of analyses and monitoring through effective utilization of PARCView database
  • Conduct necessary SAP tasks: goods receipts, requisition submittal, service entries
  • Maintain water-related training modules, including related SOPs
  • Support chemical management: Chemical reviews (water), handling, labeling, and storing
  • Manage landfill groundwater monitoring and compliance program and perform regular inspections
  • Ensure analytical lab equipment and supplies are purchased as needed
  • Participate in corporate environmental audits
  • Serve as annual shutdown planning representative for the Environmental Department as needed
  • Manage contractors and consultants as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or environmental science preferred
  • 5-10 years experience in environmental compliance
  • Wastewater treatment system experience preferred
  • Grade IV certification preferred
  • C-well certification preferred
  • Versatile in Microsoft Office
  • Manager of Landfill Operations certification preferred. Willingness to obtain if not already certified
  • SAP experience preferred
  • PARCView experience preferred
  • Candidate must be able to achieve NC Grade IV certification in 4 years or less
  • Candidate must be able to achieve C-well certification
  • Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to communicate with regulatory agencies effectively
  • Candidate must be self-directed, organized, with an attention to detail
  • Candidate must have good time management skills
