Job Description:

You will be responsible for identifying opportunities to reduce our environmental impact and engage manufacturing teams in pursuing initiatives to improve our water, energy, and waste production and consumption. This role will also ensure the provision of those services, overall monitoring, and compliance with legislation. You will be self-motivated, have a strong ability to self-manage, organise priorities, and communicate well. You will be part of a dynamic team and also supported by a community of peers passionate about taking environmental action. You will have the chance to help shape Lush’s sustainability strategy and be part of a fast-paced learning environment. You will work closely with the Facilities, Maintenance, and Process Improvement teams, the Environmental Engineer, and regularly liaise with our Recycling Centre (the Green Hub) to ensure goals and strategies are well-communicated and aligned.

Job Responsibility:

  • Environmental Compliance: Maintaining an updated environmental legislation register for our Poole Estate and ensuring we are compliant with annual reporting requirements (i.e. ESOS)
  • Conduct audits, research solutions, present proposals and support putting processes in place to support environmental compliance issues (energy, air emissions, waste, noise, water, hazardous materials, etc.)
  • Liaise with Lush’s facilities and process improvement teams to progress works
  • Ensure all affected stakeholders are aware of relevant environmental compliance issues
  • Conduct training sessions as needed to educate and remind staff of environmental compliance requirements and areas for improvement
  • Engagement/Operations: To identify opportunities to improve environmental performance in the Manufacturing Rooms by undertaking regular visits to all Poole sites and identifying with Room Managers and staff, opportunities for improving environmental performance (energy walk-arounds, waste audits, etc.) towards the company’s goals
  • Maintaining an overview on Lush Manufacturing environmental performance, identifying opportunities and areas of concern and helping to develop operational strategy
  • Being the main point of contact for all Manufacturing Rooms with regards to environmental initiatives, engaging the topic experts as needed on: Water, Waste, Energy, Spill care, Green spaces/space for nature
  • To ensure successful outcome of projects and room ownership by: Advising, engaging and supporting the design of achievable and meaningful projects
  • Building capacity in rooms to increase their environmental awareness and deliver projects successfully
  • Helping to remove blockages and seeing projects through from beginning to end
  • Create appropriate support materials, training sessions, environmental guidance and communication content to facilitate change and ownership
  • Working with Manu EP on ROI, estimated environmental impact, prioritisation and approvals
  • To help monitor and measure the outcomes of projects, make adjustments and improve continuously by: Facilitating the collection, monitoring and reporting of environmental impact data at Room level in collaboration with the Manu EP/ Enviro Reporting
  • Giving feedback to appropriate teams on their performance, making adjustments and reflecting on learnings with room managers and staff
  • Sharing updates, data and stories with Poole stakeholders
  • Sharing learnings amongst departments and Earth Care team
  • To ensure environmental protection and legal compliance by: Maintaining an updated environmental legislation register for Lush Manufacturing
  • Informing and supporting operational areas in complying (energy, air emissions, waste, noise, water, hazardous materials, etc.)
  • To develop strong communication, collaboration and alignment across teams by: Ensuring staff are up to date on Lush environmental initiatives, goals and strategic direction in collaboration with Manu EP
  • Maintaining and developing key relationships with other Lush teams, particularly other Poole support teams such as Facilities, Customer Services, Finance, R&D, Green Hub and Imports/Exports
  • Knowledge sharing with Earth Care and Process Improvement teams in the UK and internationally
