If so, we have a great opportunity for an Environmental Advisor to join the North Wes region of our Story England Division, based out of our Chorley office, with travel to project sites. As an Environmental Advisor at Story Contracting, you will provide regional environmental advice, as well as supporting the development and implementation of key business documents such as our new Sustainability Strategy and the company’s Environmental Management System in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015.
Job Responsibility:
Provide environmental support to the project delivery team, including initiatives to deliver sustainable construction, including low carbon solutions, drive resource efficiency and identify opportunities for biodiversity improvements
Provide guidance to our design teams to maximise the opportunities for building sustainable infrastructure
Work with external consultants/contractors to prepare ecological, carbon, resource efficiency and other environmental assessments across the project life cycle
Lead the production of Environment Management Plans, Site Waste Management Plans, Pollution Prevention/Control and Incident Response Plans
Undertake environmental audits and other assurance activities on site to assess compliance with key documentation
Promote a culture that supports sustainable best practice in our workplace and across our supply chain
Represent Story Contracting at various industry forums
Liaise with key regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency
Support with environmental permit, licences and consents applications (e.g. Flood Risk Activity Permits, section 61 consents)
Monitor and accurately report on environmental performance.
Requirements:
Minimum of 2-3 years professional experience
Relevant degree in Environmental Management or similar
Member of a relevant professional body (e.g. ISEP, CIWEM) - working towards chartered status
Understanding of environmental risks and opportunities on major infrastructure projects
Working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015
Understanding of PAS 2080:2023 Carbon Management in Infrastructure
Excellent communication skills, translating technical and legal requirements to actionable advice for colleagues and other stakeholders.

Experience of working across multiple sectors such as rail, water and energy would be desirable
