Wētā FX is currently taking applications from experienced Environment Modellers to join our team onsite in Wellington, Melbourne or Vancouver on shows delivering this year. The Models Department is responsible for the creation of digital assets across all shows. Within this, Environment Modellers focus on the build of large‑scale natural environment models via a mixture of kitbash, sculpting and procedural generation techniques. We’re seeking artists with 3+ years experience in VFX production, with the ability to create photo realistic models from 2D reference, previs, photogrammetry and scan data. Artists are also responsible for delivering clean, well‑constructed assets that meet the technical requirements of departments such as FX, Layout and Lookdev. We’re interested in hearing from Environment Modellers who are open to shorter, show‑based contracts. These opportunities are expected to sit in the region of three to six months. While final contract lengths are still to be confirmed, this reflects the current production requirements we are looking to support, with potential extension opportunities on upcoming shows. Pay range: CAD $43.00–$54.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience, based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on role and business needs. The rate offered will take into account an individual's job-related knowledge, skills and experience, among other factors. impressive reel showing wide range of organic/environment models with clean and efficient topology
knowledge and experience using Maya in a production environment
experience managing complexity of large environment builds and effective use of asset instancing
experience sculpting high res assets with Z-Brush
experience with photogrammetry processing, remeshing and map extraction
understand Linux desktop and system commands
be comfortable taking direction and working independently while being effective team player
strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
excellent organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines
clear and confident communicator
Nice to have:
Experience with procedural modelling techniques such as Houdini or Gaea
