Freelance Enterprise Architect – Brussels (Hybrid). We are currently looking for an experienced Freelance Enterprise Architect to support a major organisation in Brussels on a long-term transformation programme. This role will play a key part in aligning business strategy, IT architecture, and technology delivery, working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation. The successful consultant will operate at the intersection of business and technology, helping to shape architecture standards, guide solution decisions, and ensure alignment with enterprise-wide architecture principles.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and facilitate Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions, preparing clear decision documentation and ensuring architectural decisions are traceable and well-governed
Act as a bridge between business, IT, architecture, and infrastructure teams, ensuring strong collaboration and alignment across stakeholders
Define and promote reference architectures, supporting teams in adopting approved architectural patterns and standards
Contribute to enterprise architecture governance, including platform guardrails, onboarding criteria, and architectural compliance processes
Support strategic initiatives by ensuring technology decisions align with the organisation’s long-term architecture vision
Engage with stakeholders at multiple levels, providing guidance and communicating architecture concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Requirements:
10+ years’ experience in Enterprise Architecture within complex IT environments
Strong ability to work independently and proactively, engaging effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation
A results-focused mindset with the ability to translate strategy into practical architectural outcomes
Solid understanding of IT processes, governance frameworks, and architecture methodologies, with practical experience in standards such as TOGAF, ITIL, ArchiMate, and Domain-Driven Design
Experience designing and guiding cloud-native architectures, including platform governance and architectural guardrails
Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architecture patterns
Experience using enterprise architecture modelling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect, SAP LeanIX, or similar platforms
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and guide diverse stakeholder groups
Collaborative and pragmatic approach with a strong team-oriented mindset
Nice to have:
Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or large-scale transformation programmes
Hands-on involvement in solution design and delivery within agile environments
Knowledge or experience within the Energy or Utilities sector
Familiarity with Gartner architecture frameworks, such as TIME for Application Portfolio Management
