Freelance Enterprise Architect – Brussels (Hybrid). We are currently seeking an experienced Freelance Enterprise Architect to support a large organisation in Brussels on a major transformation programme. The role will focus on shaping enterprise-wide architecture practices, supporting strategic technology decisions, and ensuring alignment between business priorities and IT delivery. Working closely with business leaders, architecture teams, and technology stakeholders, the successful consultant will play a key role in driving architectural governance, promoting best practices, and enabling scalable, future-ready solutions.
Job Responsibility:
Facilitate and lead Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions, preparing structured decision documentation and ensuring architectural traceability
Act as a central point of coordination between business, IT, architecture, and infrastructure teams to ensure alignment across initiatives
Define, maintain, and promote enterprise reference architectures, guiding delivery teams on best practices and architectural standards
Contribute to architecture governance frameworks, including platform guardrails, onboarding criteria, and compliance with enterprise architecture principles
Support technology and transformation initiatives by ensuring solutions align with the organisation’s long-term architecture strategy
Communicate architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and support decision-making at senior levels
Requirements:
10+ years’ experience in Enterprise Architecture within complex enterprise environments
Ability to work independently and proactively, engaging with stakeholders across multiple organisational levels
Strong results-oriented mindset, with the ability to translate strategy into actionable architecture guidance
Practical knowledge of architecture frameworks and IT governance standards, including experience with methodologies such as TOGAF, ITIL, ArchiMate, and Domain-Driven Design
Experience working with cloud-native architecture patterns, including governance models and architectural guardrails
Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architecture patterns
Experience using enterprise architecture modelling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills
Nice to have:
Experience supporting large-scale transformation programmes or organisational change initiatives
Hands-on involvement in solution design and delivery within agile environments
Familiarity with Gartner architecture frameworks, such as TIME for Application Portfolio Management
