An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Rhinology to join a well-established ENT department in South West England. The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive general ENT service while contributing specialist expertise in Rhinology. The department delivers a full range of ENT services for adult and paediatric patients. It works closely with multiple multidisciplinary teams, including oncology, radiology, audiology, speech and language therapy, and maxillofacial surgery. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to clinical service development, education, research, and clinical governance while delivering high-quality patient care.
Job Responsibility:
Provide consultant-level care for adult and paediatric patients with ENT conditions
Deliver outpatient ENT clinics, including specialist Rhinology clinics
Undertake elective and emergency ENT surgical procedures
Participate in the ENT on-call rota (approximately 1:8) with prospective cover
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including oncology, radiology, audiology, and speech-language services
Contribute to the development and expansion of ENT services, particularly in Rhinology
Provide clinical supervision and training to junior doctors, speciality trainees, and medical students
Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Contribute to departmental meetings, service planning and strategic development
Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care and service management
Participate in continuing professional development and annual appraisal
Requirements:
Medical Degree
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
FRCS (Otolaryngology) or equivalent qualification
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in ENT, or within 6 months of CCT
Evidence of continuing professional development
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Expertise in general ENT surgery
Demonstrated experience in Rhinology or sinus surgery
Ability to manage emergency ENT conditions
Experience working within a multidisciplinary clinical team
Ability to work independently at the consultant level
Excellent clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills
Ability to prioritise clinical workload and manage complex cases
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to teach and mentor junior staff and trainees
Understanding of clinical governance, risk management, and audit
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Experience teaching medical students and junior doctors
Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Ability to work within NHS governance and professional standards
Compliance with clinical governance and appraisal processes
Occupational health clearance
Nice to have:
