Job Description

A welcoming and ambitious mainstream primary school in Barking is seeking a dedicated English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This full-time position is ideal for a recent graduate who is passionate about literacy, language development, and education. The school is particularly interested in applications from graduates who have studied at a UK university, with Russell Group graduates strongly encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibility

  • Delivering literacy interventions to individuals and small groups
  • Supporting pupils with reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and comprehension
  • Assisting with phonics sessions and early literacy development
  • Supporting pupils who require additional academic support
  • Helping children develop confidence in communication and language skills
  • Assisting teachers in preparing engaging literacy resources and activities
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Supporting wider classroom learning across the curriculum

Requirements

  • An English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing, Journalism, or related degree from a UK university
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent literacy skills and attention to detail
  • A genuine passion for education and child development
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • A proactive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude
