Are you an expert in robotic welding looking to lead high-impact technical projects? We are seeking a dedicated Engineering Welding Specialist to join a premier automotive manufacturing & logistics facility in Simcoe, ON. As an Engineering Welding Specialist, you will take full ownership of the plant’s welding programs, specifically focusing on GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), spot welding, and projection welding cells. This role is a cornerstone of the manufacturing & logistics department, where you will manage the entire lifecycle of welding equipment—from initial design and procurement to final installation and production support. You will be responsible for ensuring that all welding processes meet the highest standards of quality and volume. In this position, you will be expected to drive continuous improvement by challenging existing methods and testing innovative solutions to enhance equipment reliability. Job Responsibility:
Identify and drive continuous improvement plans to ensure overall equipment performance, focusing on quality, safety, and efficiency
Troubleshoot technical issues within welding cells and implement robust countermeasures or mechanical improvements
Engage with Engineering and Management teams to prioritize tasks across R&D, design, and manufacturing phases
Research and propose cost-effective equipment modifications to boost machine reliability and production throughput
Write detailed technical specifications for the procurement of new welding equipment, tooling, and utilities
Lead the design, construction, and acceptance testing for new welding jigs and automated machinery
Define and optimize operating process parameters for all welding equipment and specialized tooling
Contribute to maintenance documentation, including spare parts lists, PM schedules, and lockout/tagout procedures
Support the manufacturing of prototype parts and communicate technical lessons learned to the production team
Program and set up all welding equipment for new jigs and processes to ensure a seamless production launch
Requirements:
Degree or Diploma in Welding Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Automation & Robotics
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on engineering experience within a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of PLC-based machine control systems and computer-integrated manufacturing
Solid understanding of automotive welding standards, specifically GMAW, spot, and projection welding
Strong robotic programming skills specifically tailored to robotic-based welding applications
