The City of Prince Rupert is looking for a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our operations team. As an Engineering Technologist, you will be responsible for a wide range of duties including but not limited to the inspection of ongoing public infrastructure construction, assisting in contract administration, processing permits, maintaining and providing direction to a variety of developers, contractors, and suppliers with respect to project scope, procurement, and the maintenance of City standards and specification, working with engineering consultants, participation in the review of land development submissions, and assistance with various minor office functions and the survey crew as required. Duties will also include assisting with the management, collection, analysis, organization, and dissemination of GIS Operations information for the City’s geospatial data portfolio. However, the primary role of the successful candidate will be to provide both surveying and computer drafting services to the Operations (Engineering and Public Works) Department. Successful candidates will engage in public interaction and fulfill other assigned duties, all while meeting the physical demands of the job and strictly adhering to safe work practices.
Job Responsibility:

Requirements:
Dogwood Diploma or GED
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence (Driver’s Abstract required)
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized educational institution, or equivalent academic training and experience
A minimum of two years “hands on” practical experience in the field of civil engineering, preferably working in a government environment or a construction setting involving residential subdivisions, and/or related projects
Six months practical experience in GIS
Sound experience in the use of MS Office, GIS, AutoCAD and related software
Must be able to obtain a Police Information Check (PIC)
Traffic Control Certification (required within two years)
Emergency First Aid (Level 1) (required within two years)
WHMIS Certification (required within two years)
Ability to follow safe work practices
Ability to perform labouring tasks in and around vehicle and pedestrian traffic
Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and accurately with the public and co-workers
Good interpersonal skills and strong communication skills (both oral and written)
Ability to keep accurate records to ensure compliance with Bylaws
Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments with minimal supervision
Knowledge of WorkSafe BC Rules and Regulations
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
