Monitoring drilling projects, perform field inspections and test procedures for geotechnical engineering projects. Field classify soils and collect detailed data for geotechnical engineering projects. Communicate with project manager, drillers, client representative, others as applicable. Field activities will include by not be limited to monitoring standard penetration test (SPT), cone penetration test (CPT), performing dynamic cone penetration (DCP) testing, field infiltration testing, site reconnaissance, marking boring locations and collecting groundwater depth measurements. Work is expected to be primarily performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours (7am to 5pm). Specific projects may extended work hours or require night and weekend work. Adhere to strict safety standards.
Job Responsibility

Adhere to strict safety standards
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects
Participate in pre-task planning
Report any safety issues or concerns to management
Maintain quality standards on all projects
Assist in research, data collection, field observation, inspection, and field and laboratory testing
Prepare associated reports or sections of larger reports
Evaluate mostly routine laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports
Consult with other technical people and supervisor on routine and less complex projects
May perform basic calculations and engineering analysis
Drafts routine proposals and assists in the preparation of more complex proposals
Performs plan drafting using CAD software
May work with engineering technician crews in testing, observations and data gathering activities on project sites and prepare daily reports documenting activities and findings
Works under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience
Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Nice to have
WACEL, VDOT, ACI, or NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in one or more of the following categories: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils, Foundations, Masonry
ICC certification in two or more of the following categories: Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding
Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
