As the Substation Engineering Lead, you’ll guide a talented team of engineers through complex project execution, from initial scoping to final delivery. You’ll play a key role in mentoring staff, ensuring technical quality, and fostering client relationships, all while contributing to a collaborative, growth-oriented environment. Job Responsibility:
Lead and mentor a team of engineers, offering guidance, constructive feedback, and opportunities for professional growth
Manage project execution from initial scoping through design and final delivery, ensuring technical precision, timely completion, and high client satisfaction
Cultivate a collaborative team culture, serving as the primary resource for resolving complex questions and project challenges
Support business development efforts by engaging with clients and contributing to the preparation of project proposals
Ensure design quality by reviewing substation engineering packages, including one-line diagrams, conduit schedules, bills of materials (BOMs), relay panel layouts, and more
Collaborate across disciplines and departments to deliver a wide range of substation projects, such as breaker upgrades, transformer replacements, RTU and fiber upgrades, and bus protection systems
Provide technical expertise in physical and protection & control (P&C) design, with a focus on mentoring junior engineers
Lead field walkdowns and site visits as needed to support project execution and team development
Monitor project budgets, schedules, and risks, ensuring alignment with client expectations and internal goals
Requirements:
Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams, including performance management, coaching, and team development
Excellent communication and organizational abilities, with a strong balance of technical leadership and interpersonal skills
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the utility industry
experience in QA/QC for substation projects is highly desirable
Solid understanding of substation engineering practices, including physical and protection & control (P&C) systems
Familiarity with key substation components and systems, such as power transformers, breakers, control houses, and ground grids
Working knowledge of industry codes and standards, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
relevant experience may be considered in lieu of licensure
Willingness to travel to substation sites as project needs require
