Join a dynamic engineering and modeling team within the South Florida Water Management District, supporting the operation and maintenance of essential water infrastructure, including water control structures and canals. Job Responsibility:
Analyze the regional flood control system, evaluate rainfall and storm data, and assess system performance to support daily operations
Deliver engineering services and informed decisions that advance the District’s strategic programs
Conduct right-of-way and environmental resource permit reviews
Provide GIS mapping support for reports, emergency response efforts, and general operational needs
Assist with emergency management activities, including maintaining emergency standard operating procedures (SOPs), logistics support, and conducting rapid damage assessments
Support technical review of capital project designs, focusing on operability, maintenance ease, and cost-effectiveness
Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including field staff, engineers, non-engineers, and management teams
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program in Civil, Construction, Environmental, Agricultural, Biological, or related engineering field
4+ years of qualifying experience that demonstrates measurable career progression in water resource
Valid State of Florida Driver's License
Valid Engineer-In-Training certification
Must work towards and attain a State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) License
Nice to have:
Strong background in Hydrology and Hydraulics
Familiarity with permitting programs, criteria, and practices
Knowledge of construction methodologies and project operations
Proficiency with GIS tools and mapping
Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical reports
Skilled in both written and verbal technical communication with a range of stakeholders, including developers, operational staff, and the public
