Job Description:

While the rest of the security industry obsesses over locking data down to prevent it from being lost or stolen, we're doing something fundamentally different at Virtru. We're setting data free so that you can intentionally share it with others, but without sacrificing security, privacy, or control. We've created both a suite of powerful data protection applications and an open platform that's sparking an ecosystem of innovation. Through the Trusted Data Format (TDF) open standard, we're not just protecting data; we're creating a new paradigm where security enables sharing rather than preventing it.

Job Responsibility:

Responsible for both the team’s technical success—including their contributions to the open-source OpenTDF project—and the professional growth paths for your engineers
Tackling engineering challenges related to data security, scalability, and distributed systems
Continual improvement in our software development process
Collaboratively make tough technical decisions, especially when engineering solutions for complex enterprise and federal deployments, including on-premise and air-gapped environments

Requirements:

A passion for mentoring and developing engineers along their personal development path
Proven expertise in software architecture and design patterns, particularly in building and managing highly available, scalable backend services
Strong understanding of Agile development principles and a passion for failing fast and constantly iterating
At least 3 years of experience managing a cross-functional engineering team of 5 or more
At least 5 years as a hands-on Software Engineer in a language like Go, Java, or C++
Willingness to pitch in where needed and obsessively unblock engineers
A hands-on leadership style: you stay close to the code and technology, actively participating in design discussions, architectural decisions, and code reviews to guide your team

Nice to have:

Deep, hands-on development experience with Go (GoLang) is highly preferred. Experience with Java or JavaScript is a strong plus
Experience deploying and managing solutions in an on-premise or air-gapped environment using DevOps practices
Experience with cloud platforms like AWS (EC2, SQS, S3, ElastiCache) or GCP
Experience contributing to or managing a team involved in an open-source project
Experience using NoSQL and/or relational data stores
Professional background in data security, cryptography, or identity management
Thinking outside of the box to respectfully challenge your teammates and managers in the pursuit of excellence
Strong sense of urgency with an action-oriented mindset
Able to collaborate and adapt to shifting priorities as business needs evolve
Comfortable with asynchronous communication including slack, email, zoom, etc.
