Job Description

Lead a team of talented & diverse software engineers responsible for powering the detection and mitigation of fraud at scale across Airbnb. The team is responsible for many Trust foundational systems, such as the rules & policy engine, trust knowledge graph, and the vendor API gateway, and supports one of the highest throughput systems across the company.

Job Responsibility

  • Define the long term direction for the trust platform, leading investments in new technical capabilities
  • Advance operational excellence and reliability throughout the organization
  • Play a strategic role in enabling non-engineers to quickly deploy defenses and operationalize policies
  • Work with cross functional stakeholders across Payments, Community Support Products, and the Guest & Host teams
  • Lead the organizational and technical direction of our current and future infrastructure that powers the detection and mitigation of fraud
  • Lead a robust team by attracting top talent, mentoring individuals and managing conflict
  • Nurture a culture of technical quality from design, through code review, to production
  • Collaborate with internal teams across Trust, Payments, Community Support Products, and the Hosting to gain agreement
  • Carefully plan, track, and report on work of the team, identifying problems early
  • Be conversant in systems design/architecture, can reason about trade-offs, and ultimately own & defend technical decisions

Requirements

  • 9+ years of industry experience
  • 3+ years of people management experience, including experience managing technical leads
  • Strong coding skills in programming languages such as Java
  • Familiarity with Scala is a plus
  • Experience with the Trust/Risk domain
  • Experience with platform architecture patterns and best practices
  • Passionate about efficiency, availability, technical quality and system quality
  • Retained, mentored and hired senior engineers and leaders with a track record of building productive, world-class engineering teams
  • Effectively worked with senior leadership in setting strategic 12+ month direction
  • Experience with effectively creating alignments with multiple teams and operating well in ambiguity
  • Shipped several large scale projects with multiple dependencies across teams
  • Experience with knowledge graphs and/or GraphML is a plus
  • Experience with building and leading infrastructure is a plus
