Job Description

At Render, we’re building the modern cloud platform for developers creating AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. Our mission is to eliminate the tradeoff between the power of hyperscalers and the simplicity of developer-friendly platforms—so teams can ship fast, scale reliably, and focus on their product, not infrastructure. Among our most successful and critical products are features we call “Keystones”: they are the backbone to our users’ services and ability to scale. We aim for these to be world-class offerings, with superior reliability, performance, and completeness. Currently these include Postgres, Redis, and ValKey. This small team has a laser focus on excellence and creative thinking to outpace a broad market of competitors. We are looking for someone to lead this team with energy and business acumen, and build more critical Keystones for our customers.

Job Responsibility

  • Drive Product Excellence: Define and execute a vision for world-class infrastructure products (Postgres, Redis, ValKey), ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability that exceeds customer expectations
  • Lead and Develop the Team: Inspire, coach, and grow a team of high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, creativity, and ownership
  • Create the Strategy and Roadmap: Collaborate with leadership and customers to identify market opportunities, prioritize product development, and build a roadmap for future "Keystone" offerings
  • Build Operational Efficiency: Optimize team processes to balance innovation and technical debt management, while maintaining operational excellence and minimizing interruptions
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with product management, customers, and internal teams to understand needs, align priorities, and ensure delivery of impactful features and solutions

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years in management roles including managing and hiring managers
  • Deep expertise in infrastructure technologies, particularly databases (Postgres, Redis) and distributed systems, with a track record of building scalable, reliable solutions
  • Ability to balance long-term technical strategy, technical debt, and urgent enablement of product delivery with optimism and energy
  • Ability to draw creative solutions from an expert team, and realize maximum business impact
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical ideas with clarity and precision in written and verbal modes

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-a-service or software-as-a-service markets, including their competitive dynamics and customer expectations
  • A track record of successful collaboration with sales, marketing, and customer support teams to drive adoption and retention

What we offer

  • Equity with early-exercise options and extended exercise windows
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation
  • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents
  • Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans
  • 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent
  • FSAs and HSAs are available
  • Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health and therapy, hobbies, etc
  • Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy
  • Commuter benefits for Renders in the Bay Area, and home office stipends for remote Renders
  • Continuous learning benefits & related support
