Job Description:

The Marketplace Fares Platform Team powers global fares for all of Uber - that’s all riders, drivers, eaters, new initiatives and technical consumers. Tens of billions of dollars in gross bookings flow through the systems and experiences within our responsibility. Our scope and critical work spans the entire stack - from platform fare calculation for riders and drivers, to data science prediction of trustworthy upfront prices, to compelling mobile fare experiences for our customers. Fares is a full stack team with two product-centric tracks supporting the mobility & delivery business verticals and multiple platform-centric tracks (Fares Integrity, Reliability, Data & Framework). On this team, you’ll work closely with product, operations, data science, and engineering teams throughout the company.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability. Drive the technical vision and roadmap by consistently translating complex business and product requirements into generic, reusable platform capabilities that ensure scale, reliability, and financial precision across the entire Fares system
  • Own the design and architecture of highly scalable, reliable, and financially precise Fares calculation and distribution systems. Apply a rigorous platform mindset to solve the high-cardinality vs precision vs scale problem of real-time fare computation, ensuring all solutions are extensible and integrate seamlessly with critical downstream systems like money movement, tax, and accounting
  • Own the end-to-end execution of critical platform projects (e.g., core fare integrity systems, new financial product rollouts). Implement and refine planning and prioritization processes to manage competing demands. Ensure best-in-class operational health, driving initiatives for service reliability, performance, and the efficient validation of complex, multi-dimensional fare changes
  • Proactively partner with Product, Data Science, Operations, Finance, and Tax teams to gather requirements, manage dependencies, and drive consensus. Represent the team in critical technical and product discussions, providing strategic input and ensuring the Fares platform's capabilities are leveraged effectively across all of Uber’s lines of business

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in software engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role, leading technical teams through technical leads
  • Strong leadership skills but also deeply technical: Proven experience designing, building, and operating high-scale, backend distributed systems. Requires a solid understanding of technical architecture, system design, and problem-solving acumen
  • Experience with various project management and prioritization frameworks

Nice to have:

  • Experience leading pricing and/or fintech platform teams
  • Experience with building and scaling real-time business platforms, managing systems that impact core company revenue and products
  • Proven ability to approach product and business challenges with a platform-first mindset to achieve maximum leverage and extensibility
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a strong track record of successful cross-functional collaboration and executive stakeholder management
  • Strong understanding of financial data modeling, API design, and microservices architecture in a complex, interconnected environment
  • A high bar across the board - for your own contributions, for the people you work with, and for the products you work on
What we offer:
  • Eligibility to participate in Uber's bonus program
  • May be offered an equity award & other types of comp
  • All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan
  • Eligibility for various benefits
