Job Description:

Groupon is on a radical journey to transform our business with relentless pursuit of results. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. The impact here can be immediate due to our scale and the speed of our transformation. We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have the resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact. Power Groupon’s Next Chapter with AI-Driven Innovation. Are you a hands-on technical leader ready to shape the next generation of B2B platforms? Join Groupon at a pivotal moment as we transform our business with an aggressive AI-first strategy and modern technology stack. As our new Engineering Manager for Deal Management, you will drive the architecture, development, and impact of systems that empower local businesses worldwide—right from the ground up.

Job Responsibility:

  • Build & Lead a high-performing, diverse team (5–6 engineers) across EMEA and India. Set a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and experimentation
  • Code & Mentor: Be a hands-on leader—actively developing alongside your team in TypeScript (Encore), Python (AI agents), and React
  • Architect the Future: Own the design and evolution of our AI-powered agent platform, incorporating RAG pipelines, vector stores, and robust evaluation frameworks. Shape migration from legacy Java services to modern, cloud-native solutions (GCP)
  • Modernize & Move Fast: Overhaul critical workflows, automate deal and merchant onboarding with AI, and deliver pragmatic improvements with business impact
  • Collaborate Globally: Work side-by-side with product managers, data scientists, UX, and senior engineering leaders to drive high-impact outcomes
  • Champion AI Innovation: Leverage and advocate for AI tools every day—in how you build, lead, and solve real business challenges

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • 2+ years leading teams (ideally in scale-up/start-up or high-growth environments)
  • Strong hands-on backend knowledge (TypeScript/Node.js, Java
  • Python for AI/ML are a plus)
  • Confident shipping modern web apps (React), distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred)
  • Communicator & Builder—adept at translating business priorities into technical roadmaps, making the complex simple for diverse stakeholders
  • Builder’s Mindset: Comfortable with ambiguity, moving fast, iterating, and modernizing legacy systems

Nice to have:

  • Experience designing, building or integrating AI agents: RAG pipelines, vector databases, frameworks (LangChain, LangSmith, etc.)
  • Bonus: Experience integrating AI into e-commerce, B2B SaaS, or platform environments
  • worked on globally distributed teams
What we offer:
  • Greenfield & Visible: Build on a new codebase, shape engineering culture, and make a measurable impact from day one
  • AI-First Company: Be part of a true transformation, leveraging AI in live, critical commerce workflows—not just R&D
  • Career Growth: Lead your own team, influence platform and tech direction, and help rebuild an iconic global business at scale
  • Modern Ways of Working: Remote-first options, flexible hours, high-trust and support from senior tech/product leadership
  • Candidate-First Process: Expect live, practical interview tasks where you’re encouraged to leverage AI tools—just like you would on the job
