Cloudera is looking for an Engineering Manager with a strong technical background to help manage the teams located in Bangalore working on Cloudera AI Platform. You'll help manage our next-gen AI & Machine Learning platform. You'll help design, build, and deliver a platform that accelerates Machine Learning from exploration to production and supports the creation and deployment of Generative AI apps in a hybrid cloud environment. Our team is well-versed in Kubernetes, and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Openshift). We integrate with various data sources, including Apache Hive, S3, HBase, and more, using Python, Spark, or R. We're looking for an experienced Manager with hands-on experience in generative AI and good understanding of container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, Openshift, GCP. Attention to detail and a strong drive are key qualities we value. As a Manager, you'll help shape our team's direction and enjoy significant growth opportunities.

Job Responsibility

  • Take charge of a team of Engineers and be the technical advocate for the team. Strive for the implementation of Engineering best practices and coding standards
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with platform and UI engineers, quality engineers, UX designers, as well as, Product Management, Field Engineering, and other external partners
  • Work to enhance developer velocity and team agility
  • Help build the leading platform for AI/machine learning in the enterprise
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, career development and technical guidance to the Engineers to ensure they are suitably trained to perform all job functions and use project/software-related tools
  • Review design, code ensuring elegant, scalable, enterprise grade solutions
  • Perform staffing responsibilities for the team – hiring to fill open positions and working with recruitment team to conduct interviews
  • Conduct talent reviews of team members/reportees to recommend job promotions/salary reviews based on job performance and take decisions on employee performance improvement plan/termination if needed
  • Run the day-to-day activities of the engineering team in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Lead the team in working together with the dedicated customer support organization in resolving onboarding/ongoing issues for Cloudera Customers

Requirements

  • BE, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science
  • 12+ years of experience with > 2+ years of management experience in product based organization
  • 7+ years of experience as a backend developer/ technical lead in product development using high level programming languages
  • Experience building platform for generative AI applications leveraging open source foundation models, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and/or Generative AI frameworks (LangChain, Guidance, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of Engineering best practices
  • Experience with containerization frameworks like Kubernetes, Docker
  • Experience with Public cloud (AWS/ Azure/ GCP) and/ or Private cloud (Openshift/ Rancher)
  • Strong Understanding of Distributed Systems and building systems at scale
  • Ability to drive the architecture/design and provide technical directions to the team

Nice to have

  • Experience in architecting large scale distributed systems
  • Programming experience with Golang, Python
  • Worked with Big data technologies like Spark, Hive etc.
