Job Description:

BHSI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams within the Digital SME program. In this leadership role, you will shape how we deliver Duck Creek-based solutions — guiding Tech Leads, overseeing engineering resources, and ensuring teams deliver scalable, secure, and reusable solutions on Duck Creek Technologies. The role will provide direction across configuration, integration, and solution design within Duck Creek Policy, Billing, and Claims, while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and compliance standards. A critical part of this role is enabling reuse of the Duck Creek product chassis to support both near-term delivery and long-term platform evolution, while collaborating with Product, Architecture, and Program Management to ensure solutions are efficient, reliable, and intuitive for underwriters, operations teams, and distribution partners.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead, coach, and mentor engineers and Tech Leads across multiple Agile teams
  • Build a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement
  • Support career growth and leadership development within the engineering community
  • Oversee Duck Creek solution design and configuration, ensuring scalable and reusable product chassis
  • Provide technical direction across Duck Creek Policy, Billing, Claims, and third-party integrations
  • Champion engineering best practices including test-driven development, CI/CD, observability, and maintainability
  • Ensure engineering delivery prioritizes performance, reliability, and usability for business partners
  • Align engineering practices with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and compliance standards
  • Provide technical oversight of Duck Creek engineering resources (internal and vendor)
  • Hold partners accountable for quality, scalability, and maintainability of deliverables
  • Ensure vendor-built components are reusable and integrated into the technology long-term platform vision
  • Align engineering execution with BHSI’s global strategy to scale across regions
  • Balance immediate product launches with long-term platform evolution
  • Partner with Architecture and Product to translate business vision into actionable Duck Creek solutions
  • Remove technical blockers and ensure teams have the right Duck Creek tools, environments, and resources
  • Partner with Program Management and Scrum Masters to enable Agile execution and effective sprint delivery
  • Oversee distributed engineering work across global teams and time zones, ensuring alignment and delivery

Requirements:

  • 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or management role
  • Direct experience with Duck Creek Technologies (Policy, Billing, Claims) including configuration, integration oversight, and delivery management required
  • Proven track record leading multiple engineering teams delivering enterprise-grade insurance solutions
  • Experience overseeing and managing vendor engineering delivery (Duck Creek preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and scaled delivery models
  • Domain knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance systems
  • Small Commercial experience a plus
  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms, microservices, and event-driven systems
  • Experience coordinating engineering delivery across global teams and time zones
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to align technical execution with strategic business objectives
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and team-focused, with a strong sense of ownership
