As the Engineering Manager of the Content team, you will lead six engineers responsible for the content that Zalando partners (brands, retailers, etc) show in Zalando, including organic and sponsored content. You will own both the look and feel of the different formats, like Boards, Landing Pages and Ads as well as the Content Workspace tooling that partners use to upload assets and compose these formats.
Job Responsibility:

Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to shape and deliver the technical roadmap. Define mid-to-long-term technical goals, ensure seamless collaboration with teams across ZMS and Zalando, and translate business requirements into scalable, high-quality technical solutions
Demonstrate strong product ownership and product insight: Deeply understand the product, market, and business context to inform technical strategy, constructively challenge priorities when needed, and ensure engineering efforts are aligned with maximum business impact
Oversee the technical direction and drive technical excellence in our core systems. While your primary focus is leadership, you remain technically sharp - ready to participate in architecture reviews or dive into the code to help the team unblock complex challenges
Define and enforce engineering standards. From CI/CD pipelines to robust testing strategies (TDD/E2E), you ensure that quality is a core feature of every release. Be accountable for the delivery of secure, high-performance services, managing infrastructure costs and making informed trade-offs between scalability, reliability, and maintainability of codebases
Actively shape the team structure, identify talent gaps, and drive the hiring process to attract top-tier engineers who share our values and have the right skills to meet our evolving business needs
Establish and maintain effective team rituals and practices, identify and drive process improvements, and create a culture of continuous learning through knowledge sharing and mentorship to grow the skills and careers of team members
Requirements:
Proven track record of leading an engineering team in a fast-paced environment where you have created a culture of trust, growth, and responsibility
Solid background in Full Stack Software Engineering, specifically with frontend technologies, including React, and various backend technologies, including Node.js and the JVM ecosystem (Kotlin/Java). Experience in the development of mobile apps (iOS, Android) is a plus
Well-versed in modern architecture patterns (Microservices, Event-Driven, REST/OpenAPI) and have experience with AWS services and containerization
You understand how to build resilient systems that are customer facing, scalable and maintainable
Leader who can still talk shop with Senior Engineers and Principals, conduct meaningful architecture reviews, and contribute to complex architectural decisions
Can translate technical debt and infrastructure needs into clear business value for stakeholders, particularly regarding user-facing interfaces
Understand the importance of regulations like the European Accessibility Act and have experience introducing compliance to them
Fluent English communicator who can navigate technical complexity and business requirements with equal ease
