Job Description

At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises. Cloudera powers the data-driven enterprise. Our Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) is the cornerstone of hybrid data architecture—combining flexibility, security, and open-source innovation to unlock the full potential of analytics, machine learning, and Generative AI. As we drive the next wave of transformation, Cloudera is assembling a focused leadership team to execute on strategic initiatives. We are seeking a technical taskforce master and customer-oriented Engineering Leader to lead a dedicated cross-functional engineering taskforce, primarily based in Singapore, APAC. This role is for a hands-on leader well-versed in massive scale distributed systems who will translate strategic product vision into technical execution, acting as the key technical and customer-facing leader for the taskforce's strategic initiatives. You will focus on execution, drive the development of new products/features from concept to customer deployment, and serve as the technical bridge between the Singapore-based team and global product/engineering leadership.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the Forward Engineering Taskforce: Define, staff, and lead a cross-functional engineering taskforce in Singapore building empowered pods with clear full-stack ownership for strategic product initiatives within the Cloudera Data Platform
  • Drive Massive Scale Execution: Oversee the technical design and execution of features, ensuring the delivery of scalable, performant, and resilient massive scale distributed systems and cloud-native services
  • Champion Customer-Oriented Development: Work directly with customers and field teams to gather feedback, translate requirements into technical solutions, and ensure the taskforce delivers real-world customer value
  • Foster Technical Excellence: Instill and enforce a strong engineering discipline within the taskforce, championing SDLC improvements, DevSecOps practices, rigorous testing, and a culture of code quality and technical ownership
  • Partner and Collaborate: Serve as the connective tissue between the taskforce and global Engineering, Product, and Support teams to ensure seamless integration of strategic projects and alignment on dependencies
  • Coach and Mentor: Build a high-trust, technically strong team, actively mentoring senior engineers and managers to cultivate full-stack expertise and leadership growth

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 5+ years in senior management or Director-level roles managing cross-functional teams
  • Deep technical expertise in building and operating massive scale distributed systems, modern data architectures, and hybrid/cloud-native infrastructure (preferably Kubernetes-based orchestration)
  • Proven experience as a full-stack leader, capable of overseeing all aspects of product development (front-end, back-end, and infrastructure)
  • Strong customer-oriented mindset with experience presenting technical roadmaps and solutions to external clients
  • Very strong in Java
  • DevOps knowledge
  • Operational ability to define, track, and execute on key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Experience managing and mentoring technical leaders across different time zones
  • Strong grasp of open-source dynamics and experience contributing to or leveraging projects (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka, Iceberg)
