This is a 12 week internship program beginning on May 26th 2026 or June 22nd 2026. Illumio's Architecture/Platform team designs the scalable, secure, and resilient systems that power our cloud-based cybersecurity platform. As an Architecture Platform Engineering Intern, you’ll work on foundational infrastructure, distributed systems and analytics ( based on rules, statistics and/or ML/AI) that support Illumio’s mission to empower organizations to contain breaches before they become cyber disasters. This internship offers hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, architectural design patterns, machine learning, and performance optimization. You’ll collaborate with senior architects and engineers to solve real-world challenges and contribute to the evolution of our platform.
Job Responsibility:
Investigate and implement distributed systems at scale aspects of the cloud-based security analytics platform
Investigate and implement analytics at scale, using distributed systems concepts and leverage AI/ML to process and surface these to the end users
Help identify and solve scalability challenges, ensuring the platform can handle increasing loads and larger customer bases
Understanding of front-end and back-end integration, especially in systems that handle large datasets
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
Passion and interest in building efficient, highly scalable systems and improving user experience
Be empowered to take ownership of your own summer project where you provide technical solutions for real world problems. You will get to own the design, implementation, and quality of your work
Be an active participant of an existing engineering scrum team. Here you’ll learn Agile development and have daily interactions with your peers
Requirements:
Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, with an expected graduation date in Winter 2026 or Spring 2027
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Go, Python or Ruby
Familiarity with Git or other version control systems
Exposure to or knowledge of scalability, distributed systems, or cloud computing (could be a part of curriculum / coursework)
Excellent problem-solving, analytical skills, and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Nice to have:
Familiarity with web development technologies (e.g., REST APIs, front-end frameworks)
Familiarity with applied AI/ML, scaling ML use of LLMs
