Job Description

This position is a dual-track role requiring a high-cadence technical expert (70% drafting, 30% change coordination). The ideal candidate is a "closer"—a self-starting professional with a passion for precision draftsmanship and the technical acumen to manage complex configurations with minimal supervision. You will lead the creation of production-level design drawings and manage the end-to-end lifecycle of engineering change requests using SolidWorks and advanced PDM/PLM tools.

Job Responsibility

  • Master-level preparation, or modification of complex CAD models and production design drawings (MIL STD level 2 & 3), BOMs and documents with MCAD (SolidWorks preferred) and MSOffice tools
  • Collaborate on 2D and 3D models, sketches, layouts, and assemblies with the engineering team
  • Take full ownership of the "Closing" phase: create process, status, and audit Change Orders (COs) to ensure they are consistent, compliant, and ready for production release
  • Create, input and extract part and bill of material (BOM) data from Engineering Drawings/SolidWorks PLM into and from various CM databases
  • Assist Configuration Management in organizing and maintaining product design and technical files for products in production needing sustainment
  • Create, process, status, and update engineering change requests (ECR’s), change orders (CO’s), and Configuration Items per CM procedures
  • Review and validate, with help from configuration manager and engineering, change orders for consistency
  • Review change items (drawing and documents) submitted on Change Orders for consistency with CM and corporate/Industry standard drafting styles
  • Review for consistency, with help from Configuration Manager, the Change Impact Analysis on COs and ECRs
  • May work with IT to facilitate PDM database management

Requirements

  • Technical AS Degree in Drafting/Design or equivalent certification
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, specifically in a "Lead" or "Senior" capacity
  • Capable of producing high quality manufacturing drawings that apply ASME standards e.g., Y14.5 using GD&T
  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM Administration
  • Ability to utilize multiple word-processing and database applications including MS Office applications Word, Excel, Access, as well as Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Creativity, strong problem-solving and organizational skills, excellent technical writing, and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Proven "Closer" Mindset: Demonstrated ability to finalize drawing packages and drive them through the approval cycle to successful production release with zero-error output
  • High Detail Orientation: Advanced understanding of dimensioning, tolerancing (GD&T), and documentation for a variety of commodities
  • Must be capable of executing daily decisions and managing project timelines with very little supervision
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in secondary tools like AutoCAD, Inventor, or Pro-Engineer is highly preferred
  • SolidWorks Certifications are a bonus: CSWE – Modeling, CWSPA – Drawing Tools
  • Hands on experience & interaction with mechanical engineering is preferred but not required

What we offer

  • 4 Weeks PTO a year (including 40 hours of PTO your first day)
  • 10 paid holidays
  • 401(k) with 100% employer matching up to 4% of salary (no vesting period)
