This position assists our Engineering team in creating and updating technical drawings, models, and documentation. This internship offers hands-on experience in CAD software, engineering design, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects.
Job Responsibility:
Support senior drafters and engineers in developing detailed mechanical designs and drawings in accordance with Western Global standards and procedures using SolidWorks
Utilize SolidWorks PDM workflow process to maintain internal engineering files
Model containerised self-bunded fuel storage tanks and produce shop fabrication detail drawings in accordance with relevant standards (UL 142, ULC S601, UL 2085)
Work through all phases of production design from concept development to production drawings
Interpret PIDs and model piping and pumping packages to produce shop fabrication detailed drawings and production drawings complete with Bill of Materials (BOM)
Communicate effectively and collaborate with engineering team, BDMs and production
Assist production with all design-related troubleshooting, test fitment and inquiries
Provide accurate timely designs and drawings through quotation and project phases
Assist in ensuring Western Global products and design maintains the highest level of safety, quality, efficiency, cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction
Be responsible, own and drive the engineering drawing production, from start to finish ensuring all engineering drawings are fully compliant with relevant codes, standards, client specifications, while meeting tight deadlines
Reviewing, analyze, and interpret customer and supplier data and specifications
Requirements:
High proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM (Version 2025 – SP5 minimum), with experience using AutoCAD or similar software
Previous experience with 3D CAD design and manufacturing processes is considered an asset
Understanding of fuel dispensing systems or related industry experience (e.g., mining, oil & gas, pumping systems, fuel tanks, fabrication)
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, specifications, governmental regulations, drawings and job specifications
Strong understanding of drafting principles, basic manufacturing principles, schematics, documentation, and applicable technical standards
Ability to interpret technical sketches and translate them into precise digital drawings
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment
Nice to have:
Previous experience with 3D CAD design and manufacturing processes
Understanding of fuel dispensing systems or related industry experience (e.g., mining, oil & gas, pumping systems, fuel tanks, fabrication)
