The Engineering Assistant I provides entry-level technical and administrative support to engineering teams while gaining hands-on experience in an engineering environment. Under close supervision, the Engineering Assistant I assist engineers and Engineering Assistants with basic engineering support activities, document management, data tracking, and coordination tasks related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of utility facilities. This position is intended to support learning and professional development by exposure to engineering workflows, systems, and standards while contributing to the day-to-day operational needs. The Engineering Assistant I works collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, and cross-functional partners and is expected to follow established procedures, safety requirements, and documentation standards. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Job Responsibility
Assist engineers and Engineering Assistants with basic technical and administrative support tasks under close supervision
Support the preparation, organization, and maintenance of engineering drawings, project files, and documentation
Help collect, organize, and enter engineering and project data into tracking tools, spreadsheets, or internal systems
Perform basic data review, cleanup, and validation to support reporting accuracy and project tracking
Assist with document control activities, including filing, version control, and document uploads to shared repositories (e.g., SharePoint or similar systems)
Help coordinate information between engineers, supervisors, and cross‑functional teams by tracking requests and updates
Follow established engineering procedures, safety requirements, and documentation standards
Learn and apply basic engineering concepts, tools, and workflows through hands‑on project support
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned to support team objectives and learning goals
Requirements
Associate's degree in engineering or its equivalent in technical education and experience
3 years of clerical or administrative support experience
Advanced and demonstrated proficiency with business software products (Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Adobe Acrobat, Clarity, Documentum, etc.)
Ability to understand written technical standards and to communicate readily with others, both orally and in writing
Ability to prepare complex forms, reports, records and reference data, including statistical records and computations required for reports and audits
